With a gentle breeze blowing from the north east all day, we have made steady if uneventful progress towards Mindelo under spinnaker. We tried some fishing, but the ship’s outfit was designed for mackerel in the Solent rather than tuna in the wide Atlantic. And at 6 knots we could not get the lure off the surface where it was too interesting to passing shearwaters. Retail therapy in Mindelo, methinks! Anyway, you don’t need much gear here – we had two flying fish in the cockpit within an hour of dusk last night!
With just 50 miles to run we intend to press on into the outer anchorage at Mindelo during the night. We should be there around 0300 UTC.
