Most insurance companies require periodic surveys of vessels, particularly as they get older. These focus on the aspects which might lead to an insurance claim – so generally not as comprehensive as the pre-purchase condition survey.
We like to do these surveys in two parts: we will conduct a preliminary inspection which might flush out a number of actions that need addressing – such as replacing gas hoses, rigging inspections, or adjusting keelbolt torque settings. We then return to the vessel when you are ready to confirm that the work has been done before providing the survey report for the Underwriters. This works particularly well if you are bringing your vessel ashore for the winter as it helps to prioritise that jobs list – and gets you afloat in good shape for the new season!
